Myrtle Moulton, 92, died peacefully on December 20, 2020, after a valiant battle with dementia, which we believe she often won. At the time of her death Myrtle was at the Halifax Infirmary where she was safe, cared for, and comforted. We would like to thank all those at the hospital who made Myrtle’s last few weeks of life as respectful and compassionate as possible. The peace of mind this gave her family and friends is immeasurable.
Myrtle was born in Stanhope, PEI, on January 17, 1928. Although her Island roots remained strong throughout her life, Myrtle moved to Nova Scotia for work. She met her husband, Fred Moulton, in Halifax, and they made a life here together until his death in 2004. Myrtle worked for many years as a legal secretary with McInnes Cooper Robertson, a job she loved, although likely not quite as much as her garden or a competitive game of duplicate bridge.
Myrtle is survived by her daughter donalee Moulton, her son-in-law Allan Kindervater, her sister Patricia (Trixie) Ross Woodford, and her dear friend Val Aikens. She has three step-grandchildren Amy, Lisa, and Laura, who brought light and laughter into her life, along with five adorable grandchildren. Another light of her life and a constant source of companionship and solace in her last years, her dog Ludwig.
For Myrtle, a well-lived life was one filled with consideration. She will be remembered best as a devoted friend, a great neighbour, and a fierce protector of those she loved. She worked quietly but steadfastly on behalf of her community. Giving back was second nature.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elderdog Halifax or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia. In memory of Myrtle, and in honour of the life she chose to live, we ask that you do one small act of kindness today – for yourself and for someone else.
