It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Rev. Mr. Douglas Clarke who peacefully passed on December 8th, surrounded by family. Doug leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Marian, (Burns, Sullivan) his 6 children, Doug (Anne), Kathie (Alastair), David (Nicole), Patricia (Steven), Don (Ann) and Jennifer (Derrick). Doug was predeceased by his first wife, Marion (Burns), his infant son Daniel, his parents Fred and Helen (Grant) and 6 siblings.
Doug retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force, having served 20 years. As preparation for the ministry he graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University and attended Atlantic School of Theology. Doug was ordained into the Catholic Diaconate in December 1975 and faithfully and compassionately served his community for the next 40 years. Doug ministered through many different callings, serving as Chaplain at the Dartmouth Hospital, the Halifax County Correctional Facility and as Executive Director of Hope Cottage and provided thousands of hours of personal and spiritual counselling. Doug also spent many years in Parish work and was the first Deacon in North America to serve as Pastor of his own parish. The number of lives he touched and blessed is too numerous to fathom. As a Deacon he spent much of his life dedicated to helping those in need.
Dad’s greatest love was saved for his wife Marian and his family. He loved each and every one with his whole heart. He was a mentor and biggest fan to all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Joyce Day, Audrey Doy, and Sandra Bennett and a brother Dennis, many cousins, nephews and nieces and many friends who dearly loved him.
We his children are so thankful and blessed with such loving, wise and giving parents.
