Dorothy (Dot) Kelly passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022. Born in Halifax on January 19, 1919 to Thomas W. and Alice T. (Filleul) Kelly, she was pre-deceased by her four siblings Jean (Cyril), Douglas, Thomas and Roy as well as nephew Jim (Jan) Ells. She is survived by nieces Sheila (Paul) Tregunno, Cathy (Leslie) Szentner, and nephew Alan (Angelika) Kelly, and sisters-in-law Gwen Kelly and Georgina Kelly. “Aunt” Dot will be missed by her family and friends, including many great and great-great nieces and nephews and family friends David & Nancy Eisener. She was a humble, kind and gentle soul who was enthusiastic about the British royal family and helping those in need. Dot inspired us all with a life of service to her community. She volunteered with many different organizations including The St. John’s Ambulance Brigade during World War II, and St. Paul’s Church where she served in many different capacities for about 80 years. She was also involved with the IODE, ACW (Anglican Church Women) and Hope Cottage. She always took life “one day at a time”.
Dot’s family is grateful for the excellent care provided by staff at The Berkeley Gladstone and Ocean View Continuing Care over the past few years.
A funeral service will be held on Sept 6 at 11 am at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Halifax (masks are encouraged), followed by interment at Camp Hill Cemetery (family only).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dot’s memory can be made to Hope Cottage (https://www.hopecottage.ca/) or a charity of your choice.
