Dorothy Jean Carroll Andrews, age 61 of Halifax, passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of her family on Monday, October 22nd, 2018. Born in Valleyfield, Quebec, Dorothy spent her childhood in London, Ontario and her adult life in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Known by many as “Dot” or “Dottie”, she will always be remembered for her positive outlook on life and selfless nature. Dottie was very proud of her Irish heritage and was even known to dress up as a mischievous leprechaun on St. Patrick’s Day. She was a ray of light for all and lit up every room she entered. Her vibrant personality was infectious. She taught us how to truly live and how to enjoy every moment. You could always find Dot enjoying family and friend gatherings, toasting to happy hour, dinner parties, and dancing like Mick Jagger. She enjoyed family trips to PEI, down south, to the beach and spending time with her granddaughter Aubrie and the grand puppies. Dot received her BA and BEd from Dalhousie University, and a Master of Education from Mount St. Vincent University. She was a charismatic teacher that brought hope, love and joy to all of her students. She was adored and admired by all of her colleagues.
Dorothy is survived by her high school sweetheart, best friend and husband of 38 years, Steve Andrews, and their children Kelly Leckie (John) and Matthew Andrews (Kelly), her sisters, Kathy Carroll (Kevin Horne), Christine Jollimore (Dan), Mary Atkinson (David), Betty McLaurin, and her brothers, Jim Carroll (Christa), John Carroll and her granddaughter Aubrie Leckie, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Kaye and Al Carroll, infant son Luke Andrews, and sister Nancy Tomlinson.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 25th, 2018, from 6pm – 8pm and a service will be held 11:00 am Friday, October 26th, 2018, both at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax.
