Doris May Warner

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dolly Warner, Halifax, announces her passing at home on March 3rd, 2019. A suitable nickname ‘Dolly’ she was sweet, happy, and polite-a real doll. She had a marvelous sense of humour and was always laughing. Born May 22, 1925 in Mulgrave, N.S., she was one of eleven children of the late William Edward Mayfield and Florence May (Bachelor) Mayfield. She met the love of her life Francis (Sugar) Warner on a blind date and married in 1947. Their love story continued for sixty nine years until his passing 2015. Dolly was always active and social. She worked at Simpson Sears, and along with her co-workers, entered Sears’ variety shows as the Alley Cats. She was an avid seamstress; she created and designed the costumes. After retirement she was heavily involved with the Basinview Seniors Club and one of the first Bluenose Tartan Volunteers at the Halifax International Airport. Over the years her extended family was wrapped in love by the many wedding dresses and quilts she made by hand. Always interested in handcrafts she took painting, smocking, leather work, upholstery courses and could crochet a blanket from a ball of string. Along with her partner in life, she graced the dance floor where they won the Senior Olympics for the round waltz. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo and cards. Surviving is daughter Diana Redmond (Rob Eshelby), daughter Donna Sampson, grandchildren Wylie Redmond, Jessie Redmond, Carrie Gillis (John Hugh Gillis), great grandchild Rory Gillis, sister Fay Clarke, brother Stanley Mayfield, brother Winston Mayfield (Paulette Mayfield), sisters-in-law Mary Mayfield and Agnes Mayfield, the extended Warner Family, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Predeceased are sisters Beryl Brennan, Marjorie Deegan, Doreen MacNeil, and brothers Billy, Ronald, Clifford, and Teddy Mayfield. A special thank you to Kim Thomson, Darlene Boutilier, Wendy Kirby, Cathy McMullin and Jessie and Wylie Redmond for their dedicated loving care and friendship, who allowed Dolly to enjoy living-out her days at home. Thank you to Dr. Julia Gibson, paramedics and VON nurses for their support the last week of Dolly’s life. Visitation will be Friday 7-9:00 pm March 29th, and service Saturday 10:00 am March 30th at Snows Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Monday 10:00 am, April 1st. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
