Dorrie was a bright, social, independent woman who had a long, full, happy life. She was born July 19, 1926 in Windsor, Ontario and lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the disco era, and the COVID-19 pandemic. She spent most of her life in Burlington, Ontario and her last years in Bedford, Nova Scotia but travelled extensively throughout.
Dorrie still lived on her own and drove at the age of 96 (though there was some debate as to whether that was the best idea). She loved playing good bridge, volunteering, attending the opera, teaching and practicing tai chi, and the occasional drink of red wine and single malt scotch whisky. She was fun to be around, engaging to have a conversation with, and strong willed right up until her last moments.
Dorrie is predeceased by husband Phil, son Kim, and sisters Norma (Jack) Sharpe, Verlin (Jack) Mayne, Pat (Jack) Scarrow.
She is survived by her daughter Sue (Eric) Roberts, daughter-in-law Lucy Collins, brother Bill (Freda) Bruner, granddaughters Emma Pratt and Taryn Roberts, grandsons Paxton Pratt and Jonas (Rebecca) Roberts, and her great-grandchildren (Ronan and Talyn Prior, Kimmy Pratt, Felix and Maren Roberts, and Lucy, Hunter and Hayley Whittle).
A special thanks is extended to the Palliative Care Unit at the Victoria General, for providing excellent support in her final days.
There will be a celebration of life organized at a later date in Bedford and Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Bibles for Missions (https://missionthriftstore.com/financial-donate/), the VG’s Palliative Care Unit, or a charity of your own choosing.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.JASnowFuneralHome.com for the Pratt family.
