Born in Sambro, NS, Doris was the eldest of 13 children born to John Stanley and Letitia Mae (Oake) Cooke. She is survived by her sons, Donald and David (Candace); daughters, Sheilia Sperry, Sharon Bryson, and Janet (Michel) Robichaud; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren as well as sister, Ruth Benjamin.
She was predeceased by her husband, Calder William (1971); grandson, Gregor Sperry (2009) and son-in-law, Drew Sperry (2012).
Doris was a dedicated volunteer with Camp Hill Hospital Auxiliary until well into her 80’s. She was active in the Eastern Star for over 50 years, an Elder of St. Andrew’s Church and a lifetime member of United Church Women.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Friday, July 25 at 1:00 pm in the chapel in J.A. Snow Funeral Home. 339 Lacewood Drive, (455-0531). Family flowers only. Donations to St. Andrew’s United Church, Robie Street, Halifax would be appreciated. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of 3 West, Dartmouth General for their care and kindness during this past week.
