April 29, 2022, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Doreen was 83 years of age, born on October 18, 1938.
Doreen was the daughter to Muriel and Alcide. She grew up in Arichat, a small coastal village on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. She was the second oldest in a family of seven―three girls and four boys. Doreen moved to Halifax where she met Alan, the father of her children.
Doreen was a loving mother, devoted to raising her five children. She was warm, caring and protective as she doted on her children, and provided a loving family home. Doreen had a wonderful sense of personal style and her beautiful home reflected this. She would go out of her way to make things special for her children, especially around the holidays. She lived a full, rich family life filled with lots of travel, adventures and personal growth.
When her children were young adults, she decided to carve out her own identity and study at Mount Saint Vincent University where she obtained a business administration degree. Eventually, her love of travel led her to becoming a travel agent at Sears Travel for many years. She then moved on to become co-owner of a health food store called the Bean Sprout in downtown Halifax and worked to grow the business with her partner for several years. Working in the health food industry was no surprise to her children as she was always at the forefront of healthy eating, yoga and meditation―the meditation came in handy when she needed to retreat from the chaos of five kids!
Sadly, in 2019 she suffered a stroke that paralyzed the left side of her body and her health gradually declined during the last few years. Her beautiful presence is a profound loss, and she will be greatly missed.
Doreen is lovingly remembered by her daughters Penny (Angelo), Kimberly (Leo), Nicki and son Bradley (Sabina), by her grandchildren Brendan, Ryan, Conor, Jack, Kayla, Taryn, Keira, Sabastian, Sivaana, and great granddaughters Sky and Aria. She is further survived by her brother Roy (Shirley), and sister Leona (Wilfred). Doreen was predeceased by her first-born son Stephen, her sister Phyllis (Gerald) and her brothers Richard, David (Norma) and Ron (Isabelle).
A Memorial Service will be held on June 8, 2022 at 2:00pm at the J. A. Snow’s Funeral Home, at 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS
