Grandmaison, Donna Genevieve MacEachen, loving daughter of the late Daniel Joseph and Ida Ellen (Delehanty) MacEachen, passed away on October 14th, 2019, peacefully with family at her side. Donna was born in Inverness on June 8th, 1944, and raised in Port Hood; she was a very proud Cape Bretoner. She graduated from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in 1965. Donna has always been very proud to be a nurse, a vocation which saw her working at the old Halifax Infirmary, the Stadacona Hospital, and St. Vincent’s Guest House. She was very devoted to her family as she was to the Lower Sackville community in which she raised her children. She gave her time by volunteering at Sycamore Lane Elementary School, Beacon House, and teaching Sunday School with St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church.
Survived by children Mark (Julie) of Upper Tantallon, Paul (Angela) of Edmonton, AB, and Jeannine of Dartmouth; grandchildren Meghan, Jaclyn, Jaime, Seth and Justin; sisters Josephine Higgins of Sidney, BC, Marian MacDonald of Wayland, MA, Jeannette MacNeil of Port Hood, and Phyllis (Ranald) MacDonald of Port Hood; brother Donald (Judy) MacEachen of Long Point; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Maureen and Lorna, twin daughters Renée Maureen and Michelle Ruth, and brothers-in-law Ron Higgins, Ronald MacDonald, and Cyril MacNeil.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 21st, from 6 - 8 pm at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, Oct 22nd, at 11 am, at St. John Vianney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada, Nova Scotia SPCA, or a charity of your choice.
Many thanks go out to the many Shannex employees, especially those of Sullivan’s Lane, who have cared for Mum over the past twenty-one years. Your kindness, compassion and care of Mum and her family have made our journey more fulfilling and less overwhelming. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Renault, Dr. Sophie Couture, and the medical staff at the MS Clinic who continually worked with us to provide the best care for Mum.
