Born in Moncton, NB, he was a son of Donald B. Mitton and Claire N. Mitton.
Don worked in the building supply industry for many years. He later changed careers to become a home support worker for Lunenburg. Co. Home Care for 11 years. He enjoyed music, reading, swimming, walks, and his computer. He loved reading about history.
Don was a very kind, patient and loving father. He was a loving husband and caring man to his friends and patients when he was a home support worker. He also had a strong faith in God and always enjoyed going to church. He was an elder at Central United in Lunenburg. He read his bible every day and always before he went to sleep.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pauline; daughter, Heather Mitton Procyshyn; son, Peter Mitton; brother, Gerald Mitton; grandchildren, Morgan, Callen, and Amy; nephew, Douglas Mitton; niece, Trudy Mitton Flur. He was predeceased by his parents.
As we wait for the family to gather, visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 15 at 2:00 pm at Sheffield Baptist Church, Pastor John Dunkin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Mental Health Association.
Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses that took exceptional care looking after Don. He was on the eighth floor at the Halifax Infirmary. Special thank you to Dr. Crowell and Nurse Practitioners Cathy, Debbie, and Jill, who looked after him at the heart clinic and Northwood Personal Support Care workers. Thank you to Dr. Aloysius, our doctor, who made many house calls. Also to all the friends from near and far who called over the time that Don was ill.
