Langille, Donald Patrick – 88, of Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife, Erna (Merson). Don was born and grew up in Halifax. He was a son of the late James Langille and Minnie (Forewell) Langille.
Don had a very interesting and rewarding career. He started out in the Canadian Armed Forces, and later joined the Department Of National Defense, having a long career as a fire fighter and retired as a Platoon Chief in 1987.
He was a very accomplished curler and was a past president of the Mayflower Curling Club. In the summers he enjoyed golf and was a long time member of the Ashburn Golf and Country Club where he had a hole-in-one at the old course.
After retiring, Don got into motor-homing and he and Gert began their adventures traveling across North America. He enjoyed spending his winters in warmer climates with his wife, Gert and their dog, Perky. Don made many friends and acquaintances over the years. He was very active in the motor home community, organizing many successful events as president of the Scotian Roamers. He enjoyed his times at Tim Horton’s discussing current events, telling a joke, and reminiscing about past adventures.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Gertrude (Elliott-Samson); children, Barry (Marilyn) Halifax, Debbie Rees (Bernard) Fergus, Ont., Paula (Dartmouth); four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Don was the last surviving member of his family and he will be remembered fondly.
We would like to thank the Elliott family especially ‘sisters’ Carol, Nancy and Brenda for their wonderful presence and support to Dad.
Visitation will be held at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531) on Thursday, May 29th from 6 – 8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 5 Bedford Street, Bedford on Friday, May 30th at 10:30 am, reception to follow in the Church Hall.
We would like to thank the staff at Parkland and especially the staff of Drummond Hall, 2nd floor, for making his last days comfortable. No flowers please. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice or Hope Cottage.
