Donald was the oldest son of Aubrey and Myrtle (Parker) and was predeceased by sisters, Muriel and Audrey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Edith; sons, Scott of Oakfield, Steven (Yukari) of Hackett’s Cove; grandson, Dale (Carolyn) of Fall River; great grandchildren, Jenna, Joel and Josie; daughter-in-law, Debbie; brothers, Ross (Ruby), Kendall (Joyce) and George (Marie) and sister, Francis.
Donald enlisted in the Air Force in 1943 at age 17 and discharged 2 years later at the end of WW2.
After completing a carpentry course he worked 25 years in the family business, R. D. Haverstock and Sons of Hammonds Plains as sawyer and millwright, and then for 15 years at the Stadacona carpentry shop for DND.
Retiring at age 60, he travelled extensively with Edith, and continued working in his carpentry shop building projects for family and friends until his health began to decline in his mid-eighties.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Parkland for making Donald’s last years comfortable and dignified and to Kelly Evans for her valuable friendship and support.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, on Friday, Aug 17, 2018, from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church, Hammonds Plains, Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 11 am, with a reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Hammonds Plains, or a charity of your choice.
