Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, June 11, 1927, died in Halifax, October 27, 2016, at age 89. Son of George William and Etta Pearl Frost, Saint John. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Dorothy Isobel (Menzies) in May 2008, siblings George (Bud), Amy and Robert, as well as infant son Murray John. Survived by daughter Janice, son James (Jane Grantmyre) and grandson David, to whom he was known as Gramps. Also survived (we think) by sister Audrey (BC), and many nieces and nephews across the country. Like most people of his generation, Don did not have it easy. He lost his parents at age 11 and moved to Montreal to live with an aunt and uncle. His uncle soon went off to war, and came back when Don was 17. Don went to West Hill High School in NDG, where he was a star basketball player and won the city of Montreal championship. After a brief stint working at the Montreal Stock Exchange, Don went into industrial sales and stayed in that profession until 1970, when he was hired by Rust Associates, a US engineering firm in their HR department. In 1972, he joined the Real Estate Resources department of the Royal Bank of Canada in Montreal, was transferred to Halifax in 1975 and worked there until retirement in 1987. Don was president of the Kinsman Club of Pointe Claire, Quebec, as well as the first president of the Pointe Claire Aquatic Club, forerunner of the Pointe Claire Swim Club. He and his wife Dorothy were retired together for over 20 years and took up golf with a passion. One year they played 180 games of golf and Don was especially proud of the hole-in-one he made in 1993. They spent 15 winters in Florida before being blessed with the birth of their grandchild David in 2002. Don loved watching David grow up and went to many of his hockey and basketball games. David said he played even better “when Gramps was there”. Special thanks to both the QEII Emergency Department and VG Palliative Care unit for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to either the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society. A reception in Don’s honor will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Tuesday, November 1, 2016, from 3-5pm.
