The family of Doane Hallett wish to announce his peaceful passing on March 12, 2024. True to form, he has left this very concise obituary.
He was born in 1932 at Halifax. He was the son of Edward Forbes Hallett and Helen (Scriven) Hallett. He practiced law with the firm of MacInnes, Wilson and Hallett from 1956 to 1977 when he was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. In 1990 he was appointed to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal and retired in 2002.
He was predeceased by his wonderful wife Marjorie (Archibald) Hallett, daughter Cynthia Jane Hallett (Roger LaRocque) and his brothers Father Robert Hallett and George Burpee Hallett. He is survived by his children Joseph Edward Forbes Hallett (Gillian), Helen Scriven Hallett (Bryce Kiberd), Mary Elizabeth Shakespeare (Robert) and grandchildren Jonathan, Kathryn, Olivia, Isabel and James.
He loved his family and looks forward to seeing them in heaven if such a place exists. Hopefully there will be a golf course to play and a river to fish, as he is not into sitting around playing a harp.
Instructions have been left that there be a Mass for family members only. A reception will be held Wednesday March 20, 2024 at Old Ashburn golf course from 5-7 p.m., for those who would like to share their condolences with family and friends. Interment will be at a later date at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Should anyone care to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, Nova Scotia Division in his memory, it would be appreciated.
