It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband and father. David died on June 21, 2015 after a short but courageous battle with a brain tumour. David was born 1961 in Halifax to Joseph and Gloria Ross. He was raised in a large entrepreneurial family and started working summers in a family business at the age of thirteen, scooping ice cream at Point Pleasant Park. At age 19 he began working in the bar business; best known as the co-founder/co-owner of the original Peddler’s Pub (1980-2002) and JJ Rossi’s. In recent years he worked as a property manager and enjoyed being business partners with his brother Jim. David was a dedicated family man; a loving husband, true partner and best friend to Pam. He was a proud and loving father to Jacob (14) and Nicholas (12). David was a truly kind person who valued all of his friendships old and new. He loved reading, spending time with his family, vacations and trips to the cottage, and basically any activity his boys were involved in. He was a proud supporter of all of their endeavours. Special thanks to all of our wonderful friends and family who supported us during this difficult time in so many ways: coming to appointments, driving us or the boys around, dog walking, grocery shopping, snow shovelling, preparing meals too numerous to count, and surrounding us with unwavering love and support. It was this support and kindness that allowed David to be cared for at home for as long as possible.
David is survived by his wife Pam, sons Jacob and Nicholas. His sisters; Joanne, Linda (Greg Redden), Pam (Don McKay), Sandi (Doug Nicholson), Susan (Mike Burns) and his brothers Jim (Lisa), and Joey. He is also survived by his in-laws who loved him dearly. His mother and father-in-law Floyd and Judi Fullerton, and sister-in-laws Jill Fullerton, and Terry (Trent Moore), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Joe and Gloria Ross.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday June 25th from 6-8pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax Funeral Service will be held on Friday June 26th at 1pm in the funeral home chapel.
Pleased to have been able to make one short visit to see the new Halifax Central Library, David loved to read and wasn’t able to do so in the months since his diagnosis. Donations to the library’s Share the Wow bookplate campaign would be a wonderful way to honour David’s memory. The radiology, oncology, urology and palliative care teams can be recognized through donations to the QE II Health Sciences Centre Foundation.
