Born in Tenby, Wales on June 9, 1951, he was the son of Capt. Charles F.J. Finch (R.N.R., Ret’d) and Mary Riviere (Lloyd) Finch, both deceased.
His family immigrated to Ste. Foy, Québec in 1957 before settling in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1962. David’s successful career in the grocery industry spanned more than 40 years, including a term as President of the Maritime Food Association, before he retired as a National Key Account Manager with a multinational company.
He was beloved in the community, especially in Wedgewood where he lived for 38 years. As a selfless volunteer, he devoted much time to coaching and fundraising for youth baseball and basketball, in addition to spending over a decade supporting heart patients at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
David is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sheila Ann (Gannon) Finch; daughter, Maureen Mary Finch Purcell and her husband, Carlos; son, Charles Anthony Finch, his wife, Jody; grandson, Ethan Anthony, Beijing; stepmother, Margaret Finch, Dartmouth; brother, Dr. Graham Finch and wife Nancy, Oshawa; sister, Lorna Sussman and husband Jerry, Toronto; and sister, Anne MacIsaac and husband Dan, Herring Cove. He was predeceased by his sister Diana Sharpe.
A Celebration of Life will take place at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Wednesday, March 23rd from 11am to 1pm with remarks at 11:15 am. Special thanks to Dr. Ripley and staff on 8.4 at the QEII. Donations can be made to the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
