David Leslie Charbonneau died peacefully at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital on May 18, 2023 at 76 years of age.
He was born in Kitchener, ON and raised by two strong woman. He was so proud of his mom, Kay Charbonneau and his older sister Marlene Schedler. This bond with his sister has always been a joy in his life.
Dave enjoyed dancing; as a teenager, he and his mom won awards for their polka.
He bought his home at only 21 years of age and lived there for 55 years. He enjoyed and was proud of his neighborhood and great friends.
He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1965 and served for almost 25 years. He was a Hull Technician and an accomplished woodworker and skilled in all areas of repair and maintenance. He learned fire fighting aboard ship and put that to use extinguishing a flaming car in front of his house one night.
Dave always loved dogs and, in his retirement, he and his Husky volunteered at Camp Hill Hospital.
Although he and Joanne did not have a canine family member in the last few years, he was happy to welcome neighborhood dogs for homemade treats and cuddles.
He enjoyed the time he spent with his friends at The Capital Sports Club, The White Ensign Legion and The Vimy Legion.
He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 37 years, Joanne Magill and his loving son, David (Nancy Irwin) and sister Marlene Schedler, brother-in-law Rick Magill (Leslie), grandchildren he bragged about Jason Irwin (Patti Hyatt) and Donnie Irwin (Amanda Jackson) and great grandchildren, "honorary daughters" and many nieces and nephews.
In his honor, next winter, please shovel someone's sidewalk if you are able.
Visitation and reception will be held Monday May 29, 2023 4pm to 7pm at Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home 2666 Windsor street, Halifax NS.
