It is with profound sadness that we, the family of David Anthony Cable, announce his peaceful passing on December 3rd at home with his loving family at his side.
David has gone to be embraced by the light of the Lord surrounded by his heavenly family of his father, Fred; his mother, Pearl (Flemming); his brothers, Freddie, Donnie, and Philip and sisters, Doreen and Anne. David was also predeceased by brothers-in-law, Jim Spicer and Peter Ronayne.
David will be missed so very much by his sister and guardian, Madeleine Cable Simpson, Her husband, Blair; brother, Paul (Connie Sodero); sisters, Clare Spicer, Mary (Tom) Pottie, Judy (Claude) Chouinard and Angela Archer; sisters-in-law, Catherine Cable and Pat Cable and brother-in-law, Lloyd Brewer. As well, David will be lovingly missed by many, many nieces and nephews.
For many years David could be seen walking the streets of north end Halifax singing his favourite tunes. He also spent a great deal of time in his younger years at the Halifax Forum. When the Halifax Shopping Centre opened, David found a new home away from home. He became a daily part of the fabric of the shopping centre making many friends over the years. He gathered strength the week before his passing to go there one last time to be with his coffee group of Andrea, Joan, Carmen and Ruthie, and visit his special friends at Security who took him under their wing and provided him with love and attention. We are so grateful for your kindness.
Another special friend at the mall was the late Dave Randall whose inclusiveness and kindness with David will always be remembered.
David made many friends at CTV. One longtime friend who was especially kind to David over the years was Steve Murphy.
David was strong in his faith, sending the majority of his life at Saint Joseph’s and later Saint Stephen’s. David was an altar server there under the loving direction of his good friends Richard Irving. David would often come home from the shopping centre and watch daily mass.
We especially wish to thank Dr. David Tilly for his excellent care of David over the past 25 years as well as his sensitivity to David’s special needs.
A celebration of David’s life will take place at Saint Benedict Church on Monday, December 9 at 11:00 am with Father Gordon MacLean officiating.
David will rest till then in the care of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, with visitation on Sunday, December 8, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in David’s name.
