CLARKE, Daniel Leslie - Passed away peacefully on November 11, 2016, at the age of 66, surrounded by the love of those closest to him: his loving wife of 44 years, Patti (Sears), and his beloved children, Calvin (Sarah Bowes) and Gillian (Justin Prole).
Born in Halifax, he was predeceased by his parents, Daniel Sr. and Mildred (Power); and his brother, Clarence. Danny will be missed by his cousin, Cathy Bartlett, and his devoted grandchildren, Aidan and Ronan Clarke, and Maxwell and Gavin Prole, who were the loves of his life.
Danny faced his cancer fight with good humour, a positive spirit, and kindness for family and friends who will greatly miss him. Danny worked for The Halifax Herald for 47 years. He began at age 18 as a runner and then transitioned into advertising, where he held the position of Account Executive and then Sales Manager. He later took on the role of National Advertising Manager, where he built and sold the Flyer Distribution Department, and grew it into what it is today.
In whatever he did, he had the ability to bring the best out of the people he worked with. He had two passions besides his grandchildren: golf and ballroom dancing. He and Patti were members at Hartlen Point Golf Club for years where he could be seen at least three days a week hitting the long ball. He shared this love with Calvin, whom he always told "you drive for show and I'll putt for dough". A true gentleman, Danny danced into the hearts of many, and was always searching for the next dancehall. He and Gilly dancing was a highlight to any wedding they attended, and the line-up to get a turn with Danny was always lengthy. He took his talents to Pub Nights at Parkland Senior Residence and danced with many pretty ladies who helped make his Friday nights happy.
His family is very thankful for the joy they brought him. A lifelong resident of Fairview, Danny spent this past summer with Patti enjoying watching his grandsons laughing and swimming in their backyard, as he had done for years and years with Calvin, Gillian, and their friends. He will be remembered as a gentle soul who cared for everyone he met, quick to buy a coffee during his morning jaunts to Tim's, or to reach out a hand in another's time of need. A service will be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., on Thursday, November 17 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow for family in Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
