Nov. 6, 2021, we said goodbye to our precious wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Dana Frances (Duggan) Murray (1937-2021). Born in Halifax to the late Charles and Carolyn (Deal) Duggan.
Mom graduated from Mount Saint Vincent Academy and College. After graduating she was employed by C.A Fowler and Co. before staying home to look after her children. Later in life, Mom returned to work to teach evening business classes in Halifax City Schools and was employed by the City of Halifax before retiring. Throughout her life, she was active in her faith and a member of St. Agnes Church where she served on various committees and Parish Council.
Mom spent wonderful summers with her family and friends in Shad Bay and Schooner Cove when she was a young girl and later the family cottage at “Mush-a-Mush” where Paul and Dana welcomed everyone with open arms and warm hospitality.
Dana met her husband Paul, on a “blind date” with dear friends of theirs. Together they spent 60 years devoted to one another, much of it on Mayfield Avenue, where they raised a family built on values of love and kindness.
In their retirement, Mom and Dad volunteered for Meals on Wheels and spent time traveling abroad to many destinations; France being Mom’s favorite. Mom loved spending time with her brother and sisters at the Quarterdeck and cherished the time she spent with her bridge friends, whom she gathered with since their university years. Above all, Mom was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who guided us with her wisdom and love.
During Mom’s last days at home she was surrounded by her family sharing stories, laughter and love, in the same fashion she lived her life. Mom said “I have lived a full life” and “I love you all”.
We all love you Mom, rest easy and be with God.
Mom is survived by her husband Paul, their three children: Lynn (Rick) Edwards, Robert (Nancy Phillips) Murray, Jeanette McDermott. Grandchildren: Jordan (Victoria Sullivan), Jillian (Alex Boyd), Abigail, Chloe and Haydn. Sister Judy Stanley, Aunt Sister Virginia Deal. In-laws: Zondra Hubley and Doug (Marina) Murray along with many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her parents, sister Joan and her husband Gerald Mills, brother Eric Duggan and his wife Kay Duggan, brother-in-laws Stan Stanley, Harvey Hubley, Fred Turnbull and son-in-law Dyrick McDermott.
The family thanks the health care professionals who were involved in Mom’s care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia.
