We are saddened to announce that Claire Walsh passed on peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on February 22, 2022, at age 95. Born in Halifax on July 26, 1926, Claire was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Hayes) Power. She was the loving wife of 56 years to the late Frank Walsh. Claire was also predeceased by her sisters, Joan Charlton and Pauline Dempsey, and her brother, Laurie Power. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
After graduation from St. Pat’s High School, Claire attended Miss Murphy’s Business School where she studied typing. She worked in the accounting department of Superline Fuels for several years. Claire was also a lifeguard at the Halifax Commons. However, her greatest joy was being a full time Mom and raising her family. Claire is survived by her five children, Mary Jane (Woody), Margo (Doug), Gary (Deb), Pauline (David) and Patrick (Kelly). She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Adam, Jeff, Chris, Jonathan, Amanda, Jordan, Josef, Drew, Aidan, and Quinlan, her three great-grandchildren, Kinley, Sadie and Ray, her sister-in-law, Kathy, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
We all have such loving memories of Mom. Claire had a large circle of friends whom she cherished. She loved boating with Dad at Armdale Yacht Club and on Prospect Bay. She hosted and participated in many great singsongs and was still singing at age 95. She enjoyed her crafts, particularly her rug hooking in later years. She treasured everything “purple”. Mom lived in the moment, enjoying her life to the fullest every day.
We are forever grateful for the love, care and support of the earth angels at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home and Mom’s friend and roommate while at St. Vincent’s, the late Anne Crewe and Anne’s loving family. Thank you so much! Funeral service will be Saturday March 12 at 11 a.m. and will be held at St. Agnes Church, Mumford and Chebucto Roads, Halifax. A reception will follow in the church hall. Masks will be required for the service and reception. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial donations in Claire’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society. For online condolences, please visit www.JASnowFuneralHome.com. And in the end, to quote our mother, “Oh well, that’s life!”. A life well lived and a loving legacy for us to continue.
