It is with great sadness that the family of Ann MacFarlane of Bedford announces her death on June 22, 2017 at the age of 67. She passed away peacefully with family after a courageous battle with cancer that fully reflected Ann’s determination with all aspects of her life. Ann was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia the daughter of Harriet Elizabeth Llewellyn and the late Dean Reid Llewellyn of Hillside, Nova Scotia.
Following completion of high school in Sutherlands River, Ann pursued a career in banking first in New Glasgow, then on to Halifax, Labrador City and finally in Saskatoon. Ann’s focus then turned to her real pleasure and enjoyment of life, her children and then grew into the care of small children in her home. She grew to love those children like her own.
Ann will be long remembered for her great outlook on life, love of laughter, and her devotion to children. She had many talents which included handcrafts and cooking and delighted in sharing her creations with family and friends. Ann was much at peace with returning to live in Nova Scotia especially with the arrival of the first grandchildren. She delighted in springtime gardening and making frequent visits to the seacoast where she has requested her ashes be spread in a special place full of her memories.
Ann is survived by her husband, George “Ross” MacFarlane; daughters Cheryl Ann (Darcy Josey), Bedford and Gwen Elaine (Darren MacCarthy), Lloydminster and son Brenton Ross, Oakville; and sisters Helen (Allen) Sutherland and Donna (Steven) Cummings. Ann has four grandchildren, twins Elliot and Oliver in Bedford and Caleb and Brooke in Lloydminster.
In keeping with Ann’s wishes, an informal celebration of her life has been arranged. J. A. Snow Funeral Home on 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax has been entrusted with the arrangements. The celebration will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in the evening between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
Ann and her family are eternally grateful to the exceptional care and compassion provided by Dr. Kadre Sneddon and Dr. James Bentley and the staff of the palliative care unit of the Victoria General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, and as per Ann’s wishes, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit (7-A) in the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax.
