Born In Halifax in 1940, he was a son of the late Burriss and Jean (Jollimore) McManus. Bas, as he was affectionately known, was the standard for love and integrity to his family. Along with daughter Janette, he filled the role as primary father to both his grandsons, Andrew and Matthew. He was especially passionate of his children's sports encouraging his daughter's interest in equestrian riding and his grandsons interest in hockey. He never missed a game/competition or an opportunity to boast about their accomplishments!
Some of his best times were spent with his family and friends at the summer cottage. He was an avid gardener in the summer and enjoyed woodworking in the fall. Bas always believed he could accomplish anything with hard work and strong self belief. He developed a keen interest in electricity and electronics. He enrolled in a concentration of electrical studies at Nova Scotia Institute of Technology.
Bas was employed by Atlantic Cat (formerly Atlantic Tractors) where he excelled in his career as the first electrical technician in the specialization department. He proved he had a remarkable talent for building and diagnosing electrical systems. In 1980, he incorporated Diesel and Auto Electric Limited as one of the founding partners and President. He quickly made strong relationships with his customers. Bas is remembered for his dedication to service, a joyous sense of humour, and his unique, quick wit. He was ambitious, kind and believed in his staff. Bas always gave credit to his loving wife Marion, for her role within their company. He felt most accomplished by the children they raised and the love they shared. Bas, was a man who gave us words to live by and the example to follow.
He was pre- deceased by his parents, Burriss and Jean (Jollimore) McManus.
He is survived by his wife, Marion (Walsh) McManus; daughter, Janette Warner; grandsons, Andrew and Matthew Warner; sister, Maura Cameron (Bruce); brother, Terrence McManus; two nieces and one nephew.
