

Oakley, Cecil William, 96, Halifax passed away Thursday December 5, 2013at the QEII Health Science Center. Born in Halifax a son of the late Walter and Winnifred (DeYoung) Oakley. He was a member of The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, a member of: The Queen Ship of Mary Fraternity, Children of Mary, St. Mary’s Basilica, The Northern Lights and Spencer House, Chebucto Seniors, The Third Order of St. Francis, St. Patrick’s Parish, and CN pensioners. Cecil was very active in organizing Senior’s Bus Trips to Monestery and Faithful Pilgrimage to St. Anne-de-Beaupres. He was very supportive of the charitable works of the church thought his life. He was an Army Veteran of WWII serving 4 years, then, operated the Thrifty Store in Spryfield. He was retired from the Nova Scotian Hotel. He was an infant at the time of the Halifax Explosion. He is survived by four nieces and two nephews. Predeceased by two sisters: Pearl Francis & Evelyn Watson; one brother Walter; best friend Charlie MacDonald. Visitation: 2-4 & 6-8, Sunday, Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Monday, St. Patrick’s Church, Rev. John Williams officiating.
