Carol passed away on March 1 surrounded by her loving family.
She was the beloved wife of David McKeown and the cherished mother of their three daughters, Mitzi, Stephanie and Sarah. She is also survived by her prized son-in-law, Joe Lawson, her two treasured grandsons, Matthew Beasant and Luke Lawson; her brother and sister, Paul and Jill Hamilton, her brother-in-law, Bruce (Florence) McKeown, and her nephews and nieces, Benjamin Chandler, Keith and Lynn McKeown and several great nephews and a great niece. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Alan Chandler.
Carol was the daughter of the late Hugh and Alma Hamilton. Born in New Waterford and raised in Halifax, , she attended LeMarchant, Cornwallis and QEH schools before graduating from the Children’s Hospital in Halifax in 1963. She and David then made the most of their five wonderful years in Cambridge, England, before returning to Halifax to raise their children. She was a lifetime member of the Waegwoltic club, where she made the most of every summer. She loved people and enjoyed her book club, United Church Women’s unit and Bible Study group.
Carol had the most incredible interest in meeting people and getting to know their life stories. The many waitresses and clerks at her favorite haunts such as Value Village and the Esquire would beam when she arrived. This quality transferred to her many trips with David, to her favorite places such as Portugal, The Blue Ridge Mountains, Cape Cod, the many summers at Amherst Shore and the annual family reunions at Digby Pines.
Her strong faith informed every moment of her life and sustained her throughout.
The funeral will be held at Snow's Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, at 10 am on Wednesday March 4. Reception to follow.
