Edward William (Billy) Downey, 79, Halifax, passed away on March 8th 2013 at the QEII Health Sciences Center in Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late George Alexander and Leotra (Tomlinson) Downey. Billy was employed for 40 years with the CNR/Via Rail as a Porter/Conductor but most importantly he loved entertainment and he along with his brother Graham were the proud owners of the Arrows Club. In his younger years he was an avid sportsman and was the Manager for the Vaughan Furriers (The Boys of 62). He loved hockey and never missed a Moosehead game. Billy was a believer that all men are equal and with the Arrows Club all persons were welcome. His hobbies include bowling which he continued to participate in until his last days and, he loved to entertain people in his home. He is survived by his daughters Donna of Toronto, Debra (Floyd) of Halifax, Denise (Kevin) of Toronto, Murna ( Ross) of Toronto) Veronica of Toronto, Jackie of Montreal and Theresa( Frederick ) of Winnipeg. Sisters: Phyllis Braithwaite and Karen (Andy) Downey; Brothers: Robert ”Bobby” ( Cathy ), Graham (Ardith), David Vernon ( Burley); 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Carol Gabriel, brothers: Theodore, Donald,George and Leroy Jones; Sisters: Evelyn, Lillian, and Evelyn Lindstrom. Visitation: 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Friday, March 15th at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street. Funeral Service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 633 Pocwock Rd in Hammonds plains at 11 AM Saturday March 16th., Rev Lennett Anderson Officiating with Guest Speaker Pastor Wallace Smith. Repast in the Church Fellowship Hall immediately after the service. Burial will be at Fall River Cemetery.
