Age 91, with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Betty on March 23, 2023 one day before her 92nd birthday after a long battle with dementia.
Born in Halifax March 24, 1931 to the late Lawrence and Mary Flemming. The family is finding peace that Betty is now in heaven with her loving husband of 62 years Fred and son Larry.
In Betty’s early years she worked as an office clerk at Simpson’s in Halifax. Volunteered at the nursery for immigrant children at Pier 21 and the Red Cross. Betty was a Brownie Leader and Sunday School Teacher for many years. Mom’s heart was always full of love.
She was a beautiful person and singer. Betty sang with bands at local dances at Windsor Park, Jubilee Boat Club, etc. She was a member of many choirs, Nova Scotia Tattoo Choir, Chebucto Singers, Dalhousie Chorale and Church Choirs. She was thrilled to be in the choir when Pope John Paul II visited Halifax in 1984. Betty had lots of happy memories going on annual trips to Massachusetts with Fred to visit his aunts and uncles, shopping trips to Maine, trips to Disney World with her daughters, trips to Von Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont and NYC with her sister, niece and daughter and trips to Alberta to visit her Brother. Betty was her grandchildren’s biggest fan, attending their sporting games, dance recitals and school concerts.
