I was saddened to hear of Bern’s passing and would like to extend my condolences to her family and friends. I met her in 1976 while attending MUN and have fond memories of many backgammon games and mugs of earl grey tea when we should have been in class or studying. She and I remained friends for many years, though sadly lost touch eventually. 

A donation has been made to Big Brothers Big Sisters in her memory.

Many Happy memories of Bern,  Monday nights at the Rob Roy, summer days at Second Pond,  swish barrels,  Halloween and other parties (usually at her instigation), Christmases together, visits to Halifax, going through her pregnancy with Chris,  more family times at Second Pond with Chris, Stephanie and Sarah!  All great times and lots of joyous memories.

Once she became a mom she loved her children fiercely, she was born for that. We spent many beautiful days together while both nurturing little people, when she lived in Newfoundland, I will always cherish those times. We had tons of fun, and mischief to get into. Bern had an incredible sense of fun, and spread that to everyone around her. Her laughter still rings in my ears. 💔

Heart broken to hear of Bern’s passing.  I remember the fun and laughs we had as teenagers growing up on Fogo Island. The joys of summer days walking to the rail’s pond for a swim.  Wanting a beautiful golden suntan, we would rub ourselves with baby oil mixed with iodine.  Sounds crazy now.  The fun of teenage dances, weather it was in the high school or at the local hall, we always managed to get there and stay until closing.  So many wonderful memories of our great group of girls.  Our hearts go out  her family.  Rest In Peace my friend and cousin.

Aunt Bern was an ever present figure in my life.  My earliest and clearest memory  of her from childhood is of her  reading  me Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it is still a favourite story of mine. In her  late teens or early 20’s she lived with her brother Jack (my father) and our family for a period of time in St. John’s while she went to university.  When I moved from home for the first time,  I landed in  Halifax . Bern gave me a home until I found my own.   A few years later I got married in  her living room. Several years later in that very living room, Aunt Bern, my husband and I decided, upon her insistence, to have a second child.  My son Lane is very aware Aunt Bern was a huge reason for  his existence.  Over the many passing years and distance, Aunt Bern and I remained very close .  I loved her dearly and will miss her deeply.

I am so saddened to hear of Bern’s passing. My deepest condolences to the Family.
You will be missed dearly. I miss our little chats, whenever she would call my Mom, if I was around I’d answer and we would be lost in conversation, mostly her making me crack up laughing so much that I could barely get a word in. She always knew how to lift my spirits, and certainly thought a lot of our family as we did hers. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love and miss you Bern.

I’m heartbroken to hear of Bern’s passing. I’ve known her for many years and it’s hard to believe I can’t pick up the phone and hear her voice.
Bern was a unique and wonderful presence. She was always there when I needed an encouraging word and a joyful laugh. I well remember the picture you posted of her…love it!
