Dr. Barbara Jane Fox passed away at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Halifax on October 15, 2023, at the age of 72. Barb was born on October 3, 1951, at the Carleton Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, N.B.
Her school years were spent in Woodstock. She graduated from Woodstock High School and shortly after spent a year atCrabbet Park Equestrian Centre in Crawley, England, where she attained Assistant Instructor qualification. Following that, for several years, she was a riding instructor for young peopleand adults at the Fredericton Pony Club. Barb loved her horses and was an accomplished rider and loved dressage and show jumping. Barb also loved downhill skiing and was a CSIA qualified ski instructor at Crabbe Mountain Ski Resort.
Later in life Barb went to the University of New Brunswickin Fredericton, N.B. where she attained an Honors B.A. degree after only two years of concentrated study. Following that she attained a PhD in Psychology in Vermont, USA, and upon graduation she practiced in Halifax, N.S. for many years. She was passionate about her work.
While in Halifax she met the love of her life, Paul Callaghan and they shared an incredible and loving life together. They loved to travel and had many wonderful experiences together.Paul and Barb were avid runners and even entered marathonswhich included the Boston Marathon.
Barb was pre-deceased by her parents, Pauline Mutrie, and Dr. Murray Mutrie. She is survived by her brother, Dr. William Mutrie (Joyce Albert), her sister, Nancy Acker (David Acker), her daughter, Dr. Rachel Fox (Josh Boone) and her grand-children, Oliver, Xavier, Eva, Octavia, and Victoria.
The amazing caregivers of Comforting Companions Care Providers Inc were actively involved in Barb’s care. These incredible professionals were not only caregivers but also friends to Barb. Also, Barb benefited from the care of the incredible doctors and staff on 4W, Veterans Memorial Hospital in Halifax, N.S.
