It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Aristidis Damianos Makridis passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17th, 2025 at the age of 61. Born on June 7, 1963, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Aristidis was a beloved son, partner, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth, wit, and wisdom touched the lives of many.
Aristidis was predeceased by his father, Damianos Makridis, and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. He is survived by his loving partner, Joseph Bourgeois, his loving mother Helen Makridis, and his cherished sisters Maria (George) Eleftheros and Lefki (Yiorgos) Vonapartis.
Affectionately devoted to his nieces and nephews — Elias, Theodoros, Damianos, Panagiota, and Eleni — Aristidis brought joy and laughter into every family gathering. He was a proud godfather to many children, each of whom held a special place in his heart, and he took great joy in watching them grow and thrive. His quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering love for those close to him will be remembered always.
A dedicated and respected member of the business community, Aristidis served for many years as co-owner of Martinizing Dry Cleaners alongside his cousin, Aris C. Makridis. His commitment to hard work, attention to detail, and friendly demeanor earned him the trust and appreciation of countless loyal customers throughout the years.
He was a devoted member of the St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Halifax, where his presence and participation reflected his deep faith and connection to his heritage and community.
Aristidis had a deep and abiding love for all things Greek. His heart belonged to his ancestral homeland, and he and Joe were always planning their next trip to his beloved Greece, where he found joy, peace, and connection. He embraced his culture with passion — especially when it came to food, music, and celebration. A gifted home cook, his culinary talents were well known among family and friends, and none of us will forget the legendary baklava he made for the last family Christmas — a sweet memory we will always treasure.
Aristidis was a spirited participant in Halifax’s annual Greek Fest, where he volunteered and enjoyed the festivities with his trademark smile and infectious laughter. He truly loved a good party and brought joy and energy wherever he went.
Aris and Joe were soulmates and spent 30 years together travelling the world, making lifelong friendships. Aris was a life force that despite any obstacle was always ready to support and sacrifice himself for all those who knew him. This was evident in the last years when Aris never lost his spirit and love of life and rose to the many challenges he faced.
We would like to thank all the staff at the QE HI site 4.1 and Dialysis Unit for their excellence care. Each person that was involved with Aris’s case, went above and beyond the call of duty. Not only did they represent the best of professionalism but provided the emotional support that was much appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, we would like donations to be made to the Saint Catherine’s Greek Ladies. Philoptochos Society of Halifax.
