It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Spencer MacLean, 84, on June 12, 2023, in Halifax.
Ann was a devoted wife to high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Wayne, and mother to Heather (Esteban Parra), Valerie (Timothy Kalheim), Natalie (Sadettin Ak), and Susan (Moisés Michel), and “best Nannie ever” to Ana and Susi Parra, Quinlan and Colin Kalheim, and Enis and Erin Ak. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, long-time friends, and her beloved cat, Mr. Tigg.
Ann was born in Halifax and was predeceased by Wayne, her parents, Bessie and James Sinclair MacLean, and sisters Jean and Eleanor.
Ann attended Queen Elizabeth High School and Dalhousie University where she received her training in education. She taught school in Charlottetown, Beaverbank and Halifax. After raising her family, she graduated from Saint Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Arts in Irish Studies.
In addition to her family, Ann’s passion was music, and she played violin, viola, and piano in many groups including the Chebucto Orchestra, Caledonian Orchestra of Nova Scotia, and the Cranston Trio. She was also proud to have performed as part of a choir for the Queen.
Heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Unit 8.1 at the QEII for their kindness and excellent care.
A tea party to remember Ann will be held Friday June 16, 2023 at Cruikshanks's Halifax Funeral Home on Friday June 16, 2023 from 2-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Ann with a donation to Bide Awhile Animal Shelter.
