Andrew Horace Chapman (Andy) was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, on April 10,1965. Andy passed peacefully at home in Bedford, Nova Scotia, with his life-partner by his side on May 2, 2020. His zest for living, his boundless energy and his incredible strength has been evident throughout his private and professional life, especially in the past ten years while battling cancer and undergoing numerous operations.
Andy’s career began in the early 80’s as a fisherman on both inshore and offshore vessels. After completing a Bachelor of Business Administration with a double major in Management and Marketing at Mount Saint University, he built and managed a processing facility and eventually returned to sea with DFO enforcement. In the mid 90’s Andy became Newfoundland operations manager for fish quality inspectors, covering thousands of vessel landings per year. Later he moved to Nova Scotia as an Industrial Liaison Officer for the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation, covering the Maritime region. Here he conducted scientific assessments of various marine species as well as assessing efficiencies in both the harvesting and processing sectors. He also developed and facilitated numerous seafood quality training programs reaching thousands of fish harvesters and processors for government, industry associations, universities and community colleges.
To describe Andrew would be to say he was kind and thoughtful, clever and witty, dramatic, magnetic, couldn't keep a secret, told it like it was, life of the party, relatable, sensitive, neighborhood protector, pet-lover, unforgettable, risk-taker, lover of the outdoors, assigner of nicknames, avid boater, motorcyclist and snowmobiler and a loving partner.
Andrew will be remembered and missed greatly by those who knew and loved him, especially his family: his soulmate and wife, Lenora; stepchildren Christine and Brandon; grandchildren Lowen and Norahlee; brothers and sisters Shelagh, Bruce, Philip and Heather; in-laws Ann, Jackie and Dave; nephews and nieces Kevin, Anthony, Aaron, Danny, Alex, David, Julia, and Laura; uncles, aunt, and cousins; and fur-babies Whiskey, Rascal, and Chloe. Andrew was predeceased by his mother and father, Helen and Gerald and his infant daughter, Beth.
There will a private family burial, and a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
