It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alexis Pearline Byers, 77 of Halifax, Nova Scotia on January 21, 2023.
Pearline is survived by her loving children, daughter Darleen (Derrick), and son James (Doneilia); grandchildren Deon, Aynsley, Nia, and James; sisters Kathleen Mitchell, Velma (Wendell) Skeir, Margaret Thomas, Mary Clayton, Patricia (Larry) Thomas-Barton, and Germaine Thomas; brothers Alexander (Heather) Thomas, Alvin (Wanda) Lawrence, and Troy Thomas; sisters-in-law Bernice (Jean-Paul) Arsenault, Carolyn Byers and Janet Byers; brothers-in-law Douglas Byers and Wayne Marsman; many special nieces and nephews; and godmother, Mary MacDonald.
“Pearl”, as she was affectionately called, was predeceased by her loving husband James Artel Byers; her mother, Mildred (Johnson) Thomas and father, Alexander Thomas; sister Elizabeth; brothers Joseph, Rodney, and Fredrick; father-in-law Artel Byers and mother-in-law Elsie Byers.
Pearline worked with the Registry of Motor Vehicles for a time, then dedicated her life to her family. Mom was the backbone of our family and always ensured we were provided for with her love. She also made sure others in need were provided for. She enjoyed spending time with family (grandchildren) and surrounding herself with her siblings. Mom crocheted many blankets, and knitted dish clothes that she loved to share. She was always eager to learn new technology. Mom was a loving soul who always had a listening ear and when asked, would provide advice.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 26, 2023 5-8pm. Funeral Service will be held the following day Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11am. Both will take place at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax, NS.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pearline’s memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada and New Horizons Baptist Church at newhorizonsbaptist.ca /donate.
