Aissa Marlene McLean

Born Feb. 27, 1962 in Beausejour Manitoba. Married Sept. 7, 1991 to Steve Mclean. Aissa worked as a paralegal researcher and a manager of the Casino Theater in Halifax. Aissa’s passion and driving force in her life was her son David Gibson McLean. She loved him so, and dedicated her life to seeing he could pursue every opportunity he took a liking to, guiding him through his acting and musical career. Her proudest moment was David’s acceptance into Berklee College of Music where he now studies.

Aissa was happiest listening to David and countless other play and practice music at home. Her baking will be missed by many, she took pleasure in making cakes and treats for Garrett Mason, who she loved dearly, along with Li’l Barry Cooke, Gary Potts, and Joe Murphy. Joe has given so many young musicians the break that gave them a start. Aissa put it best one of the last nights she saw them play, “God gave them all a heart for the Blues, but Joe, is one of Blues greats, who truly has walked the walk, has a heart for everyone and thanklessly tries to let them all play.”

Survived by husband Steve and son David, Halifax; Father Frederick Gibson and his spouse Elizabeth; sisters: Bonita Fox (John), and Veronica (Butch); brothers: Blaine and Shane (Rhonda); nieces and nephews Wesley Fox, Cheyenne and Joshua Gibson, Selena.

Predeceased by:

Her beloved mother, Loraine Gibson (Bowser) and her aunt Marlene.

Cremation and Private service have taken place. There will be a celebration of Aissa’a life to be held on her Birthday Feb. 27, 2014 at Freemans Fairview, 3671 Dutch Village Road, Halifax. Donations in her memory may be made to the VON.

There is no love greater than that between a mother and her son.

-NEW SERVICE DETAILS-

I would like to thank everyone for the calls, e mails and outpouring of support over the last year, since my wife Aissa had been diagnosed with brain cancer last May. As most of you know Aissa Passed away at 10:35 on a Sunday morning the 12th of January early this year.

Aissa, David and I, had discussed how a service and or funeral could be held. From the get go it was Aissa’s desire not to have a sad service of any kind. Aissa had a sincere faith in God and love for life. Therefore it was decided that a celebration of her life was exactly what she preferred instead of a somber service.

Over the last few years of her life, we had spent many hours enjoying and listening to live music and created life long friendships with some great people. Not only did it allow Aissa the opportunity to see David play which was her greatest joy. Even while he was away in college it gave us pleasure to watch our new friends perform.

I realize everyone's lives are busy and time is precious, something I know now more than ever before in my life. However, it would be my pleasure to see as many people that can come out and join David and Myself at Freeman’s L’il NewYorker at 3671 Dutch Village Road in Fairview at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, February 27th, to celebrate Aissa’s Birthday and her life.

This is a totally relaxed and casual function, There will be, as in keeping with Aissa’s wishes, lots of live music from some great musicians, with loads of laughs and hugs.

Thanks again to everyone for your love and support over the last year. I hope to see as many of you that can attend on Thursday, February the 27th.
