“I don’t want to make a difference, I want to be the difference.”
It is with broken hearts that we reflect on the life of our dear Abby. Born in Halifax on April 8, 1994, she died peacefully with her mother Sandra by her side on May 8, 2014. Abby attended the Montessori Children’s House and Armbrae Academy where she was much beloved by students and teachers, as well as being a cornerstone of their theatre program and valedictorian. She completed the Foundation Year Program at King’s College in 2013 where she was deeply inspired by the great philosophers of life. Abby was very creative and had an amazing sense of humour, both of which she applied to theatre, song, art and her unique sense of style. Abby bravely battled leukemia as a child, and thanks to a bone marrow transplant and overwhelming support and sheer determination of her mother Sandy was able to beat it and thrive.
Abby’s sweetness, warmth, and ability to see the positive side of everything and goodness in everyone were among her greatest qualities and touched everybody who met her. She and her mother Sandra shared a rich life, full of friendships and travel. Abby’s caring and generous spirit led her to become a founding member of the Halifax branch of the Friends of Gilda Society.
Abby is survived by her mother Sandra (Ethan), her father Alexander Boyd, her aunts Merle/Marilyn (David) and Debora (Roy); her uncles Jack (Wini), Frank (Connie), Ron (Marie), and her cousins George (Alex), Liam, Nicki, Taylor, Sam, Scott, Dana, Cary, Frankie; and her girl friend Megan and dear friends Hayley and Alex. She was predeceased by her grandparents Dorothy and Jack Bryant and her honourary grandmother, Peggy Smith.
We would like to thank all the incredible doctors, nurses and staff of the Victoria General 6A and 3A for their help and support and of course the IWK, especially the oncology department. A special appreciation to her medical practitioner, Dr. Maria Patriquin.
Service at St. Mary’s Basilica, Wednesday, May 14, 9:30 am. Reception following at Pier 21.

Abby was wise and insightful beyond her years. She left this earth much too soon.
Her courage and wisdom will always inspire us.
