Ted was born on May 27th, 1936 to Samuel Moskowitz and Irma Eisner Moskowitz in Jersey City. After graduating from Steven's Academy High School, he went on to study at Harvard University, AB, Columbia University, MBA, with honors, and Seton Hall University School of Law, JD with honors.
After graduation, he was the Staff Vice President and a Director of Mobil Centers, Inc. for Mobil Oil Company. He then went on to become the Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer at Samuel Schlesinger Inc. Ted went on to become a lawyer and partner at McCarter & English, LLP, where he worked for over 35 years. He taught legal writing and analysis at Seton Hill Law School, was a combat Engineer at Fort Leonard, Missouri. In 1952, he met Sandra, "his lifetime love". They wed in 1957, at the Waldorf Astoria and remained the epitome of a true love story until his last days. They were blessed with two daughters, Lisa Russ and Stacy Cancelarich and four grandchildren, Lalita Moskowitz, Lily Russ, and Sarah and Sam Cancelarich.
Ted was wholly devoted to his family, who he guided with strength and unconditional love. He modeled tolerance, kindness and hard work. He was a staunch supporter of civil rights, a progressive liberal and warrior for social justice. Qualities which he passed along to his children, who put them into practice in their lives and professions. He was a lover of music, maker of mischief, wearer of festive hats, lover of ice cream, and Scrabble player extraordinaire. A Yankee fan, an annual attendee at the infamous Harvard/Yale game, problem solver to all who needed guidance, bird and whale watcher, and beachcomber. A lover and aficionado of humor, leaning towards sarcasm. He was adamant about not eating anything green, other than mint chip ice cream. He adored a simple lunch as much as a big celebration. Lover of life, half glass full, never complained and lifted all around him.
His was a life well lived. He was joyful, philanthropic, optimistic, sentimental, chivalrous, and accepting. No one loved a good debate better then Ted, and no one ever won against him. He always kept a piece of "being a kid at heart". He is deeply missed already and we will carry on with all the marvelous characteristics, lessons and love he gave us.
Ted was predeceased by his parents Samuel Moskowitz and Irma Eisner Moskowitz, his Uncle Benjamin Moskowitz and Aunt Helen Siegel. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra Moskowitz, his children Lisa Russ and her partner Joseph Darby, Stacy Cancelarich and her husband Joseph Cancelarich, his grandchildren Lalita Moskowitz, Lily Russ, Sarah Cancelarich and Sam Cancelarich, his sister Jane Lund and his sister-in-law Irene Schlesinger.
Donations in his honor can be made to the ACLU or Southern Poverty Law Center, or a charity of your choosing.
