Suzan Witte of Pompano Beach, FL passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 with the heartfelt support of Catholic Hospice. Suzan was born in New York City, to parents Herman and Freda (Schulman) Weinstein.
Suzan is survived by her daughter Joanna (Witte) Jerose, son-in-law Brian Jerose and granddaughters Maya and Lucy of Fairfield, VT, nephews Peter and Jeff Covitz, and niece Melissa Gagne and their families. She is also survived by special friends Linda Cagan of Estero, FL and Ed Vaandering of Fort Pierce, FL. Suzan is predeceased by her parents, her sister Ida Freiberg and husband William Freiberg, and her daughter Michelle Audrey Witte.
Suzan graduated from Great Neck South High School in Long Island, NY, and from Hofstra University with a degree in Dramatic Literature, including a term abroad at the University of Madrid, Spain. She later raised her family in Manchester, NH, where she worked for the Zales Corporation as a jeweler. Suzan was a Hebrew School Teacher at Temple Adath Yeshurun, where she engaged young learners in the heroic efforts of important historical Jewish figures. Suzan embodied her teachings through volunteer work with veterans at the Manchester VA Medical Center, in the Recreation Therapy Department where she was heavily involved for years.
Upon retiring to Pompano Beach, FL, Suzan became involved as a Board Director on the Palm Aire Condominium Association for 15 years. She particularly enjoyed interviewing and welcoming new residents to the community. She loved sharing stories with friends and neighbors at the pool and the beach, and working to improve the buildings, landscaping and communication among residents.
Suzan continued her activism in FL through volunteering at Hospice By the Sea, the Sierra Club, and other peace and justice organizations. She was particularly proud of her advocacy work as a Committee Member on the City of Pompano Beach Recycling and Solid Waste Committee.
Suzan loved her family and friends, she valued education and the importance of community, she modeled ways to give back and encouraged those around her to pay it forward. She loved all things beautiful.
Suzan was buried with her family at the Beth Moses Cemetery in NY. Memories can be shared through Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors' website
