. Phyllis Sandra Zettler (nee Shafir), of Lakewood, formerly of Paramus, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully Friday, February 26, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was 74 years old and died in Hospice at Villa Marie Claire, after a long battle with Dementia.
Phyllis was born in Bayonne, NJ on April 17, 1941 to Myron and Gertrude Shafir. She grew up in Bayonne and graduated from Jersey City State College with a bachelor in education. She married the love of her life, Richard Donald Zettler, on July, 26, 1964, and began her career as an elementary school teacher. After settling in Paramus NJ, Phyllis and Richie devoted themselves to raising their three sons, Scott, Daniel (Dan), and Leslie (Les). Phyllis was a dedicated wife and mother who supported her family in all of their endeavors, actively participating in school functions and activities. She was active for many years in Cub Scouts, Hadassah, various groups at the JCC Paramus, and Hebrew High School. She was also an avid artist and crafter who enjoyed making gifts for her children and grandchildren. Phyllis and Richie retired to the Four Seasons in Lakewood in 1999 where she was heavily involved with arts and crafts and supporting the chorus that Richie participated in. She was their #1 fan and attended many rehearsals and all of the shows, often singing along from the audience.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Dan and Emmett of Allendale, NJ, Leslie of Lakewood, NJ, and Scott and Jennifer of Waterford, CT, and by her granddaughters, AvaGrace, Amanda and Gabrielle, and by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, Richard, who passed away on January 15, 2016, and by her parents and her brother, David Shafir.
Funeral Service was held Monday February 29th followed by interment at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ
Shiva will begin today and Tuesday at the home of Dan & Emmett Zettler; 45 Allen Street, Allendale, NJ 07401
Shiva will continue on Wednesday and Thursday at the home of Scott & Jennifer Zettler; 42 Pepperbox Rd. Waterford, CT 06385
