Marilyn was born in Bayonne, NJ. She left Bayonne to attend Northwestern University. After her graduation she returned to NJ and began a teaching career.
She met and married Milton D. Liebowitz of Englewood, NJ. They settled in Bergen County to raise their family.
She was a resident of Tenafly for more than 50 years.
Marilyn began a career working in Development at cultural and educational institutions including Columbia University, the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic. She worked until her retirement in 2009.
She enjoyed experiencing her granddaughter Abby’s accomplishments in school and on the sports field [soccer and softball].
In retirement Marilyn became an avid traveler, visiting Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Amongst her many adventures she explored Cuba, Cambodia, Turkey, Morocco, Zimbabwe and Argentina, but also loved exploring the Met Museum and Met Opera back home.
Marilyn also donated her time to various organizations, including teaching English as a Second Language [ESL] in the Tenafly Senior Center, organizing concerts for the Tenafly Public Library, and served on the Tenakill Swim Club Board. In these activities, she developed many deep relationships with her students and the other volunteers.
Marilyn was the beloved wife of the late Milton Liebowitz, devoted mother of Alan Liebowitz and his wife, Mindy, Sharon Liebowitz and her husband Winston, loving grandmother of Abby Liebowitz.
Service 12 noon, Friday at Temple Sinai of Bergen County, 1 Engle Street, Tenafly, NJ.
Memorial contributions may be given to Englewood Hospital or the Tenafly Senior Center.
