Julius Eisen passed away on August 9, 2024, at home in Upper Saddle River, NJ, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hoboken, NJ, on September 19, 1936, to Clara and Abe Eisen, he was a Bergen County resident for all of his adult life. A funeral service for Julius will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. Following the funeral service will be an interment from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries, 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652.
Julius "Julie" Eisen's name has been synonymous with dedication and commitment to philanthropic causes. With a rich history of leadership roles, including President of the JCC of Bergen County, President of the United Jewish Community of Bergen County, and Board Member of, among others, the New Jersey ADL, the United Way of Bergen County, Good Samaritan Hospital, and the Jewish Theological Seminary, Julie has left an indelible mark on the local and greater community.
Recognizing the transformative power of Jewish camp experiences, Julie served as President of the Foundation for Jewish Camp, advocating tirelessly to ensure accessibility to all families seeking to enrich their children's connection to Jewish traditions.
Julie spearheaded countless trips to Israel, a country that he was a passionate and proud supporter of from its inception. It was on one such trip that a profound connection between Israel and northern NJ was forged, giving rise to Open Hearts Open Homes, a transformative program providing respite to teens impacted by terrorism, fostering bonds between communities. His love of Israel and his generosity has informed the lives of multiple generations of family and friends, inspiring the sobriquet “The Julie Eisen Ripple Effect”.
Beyond his philanthropic endeavors, Julie enjoyed a long and successful career as the Executive Vice-President of the Short Line Bus Company in partnership with his brother-in-law, Buzz Rukin.
Julie, gifted with limitless energy, a razor-sharp wit, boundless creativity, expansive imagination and a zest for blazing his own path, will be remembered for his strength of character, his love of life, his joyful spirit, and his countless acts of generosity and kindness, which have impacted all who knew him. Predeceased by his two older brothers Leonard and Martin, he is mourned by his younger brother Donald. He leaves sisters-in-law and brothers-in law, nieces and nephews, and good friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
His great spirit will always live on for his dearly beloved wife Susan, his loving children and their spouses, Cara and Gil, Andrew and Rachel, Josh and Ellen, and his cherished grandchildren, Noam, Uriel, Yaniv, Elisha, Luca, Reni, Kobi, and Jordan.
The family will be observing Shiva at the home of Susan Eisen 57 Riverview Terrace Upper Saddle River, New Jersey 07458. Sunday after the interment until 9:00 pm, Monday thru Thursday 2:00pm - 4:00pm & 7:00pm - 9:00pm and Friday 2:00pm - 4:00 pm.
