Jerry was born in the Bronx, NY on June 9, 1938 to Samuel and Bertha Nemzer. Jerry excelled
academically and graduated from the prestigious Bronx High School of Science. He continued his
education at Columbia University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology.
Jerry served in the US Army and Army reserve from 1958 through his Honorable Discharge in
1965.
He followed in the footsteps of his father and cherished Uncle Sidney and started his career as a
pharmacist.
In 1961, Jerry met Joyce Tannenbaum at a wedding. They started dating soon thereafter and
realized they were meant for each other. Jerry and Joyce married on March 4, 1962 and enjoyed
a wonderful 61 years together before Joyce’s death in 2023.
They started their family with the birth of their daughter, Elaine, in 1964. In 1966, they
moved to Rockland County, NY, where they welcomed two more daughters, Michelle in
1967 and Toby in 1972.
Jerry’s journey as a pharmacist had multiple stops, highlighted by owning his own store
in the Bronx, until he, at the age of 72, retired from CVS Pharmacy in Bethlehem, PA.
Jerry also served his community faithfully. For over two decades, he volunteered at the
Spring Hill Ambulance Corp winning multiple awards for his service including the Stork
Award for delivering a baby.
After his retirement, Jerry and Joyce enjoyed traveling around the world and spending
time with family and friends.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Bertha, and his loving wife Joyce.
He is survived by his children, Elaine (Steven) Bergida, Michelle (Michael) Rutigliano,
Toby Sarinick, his six grandchildren Samantha (Gavin) Pellenberg, David (Lizeth)
Bergida, Sydney and Olivia Rutigliano, Michael and Emma Sarinick, and great
granddaughter, Aurora Pellenberg.Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Gutterman &
Musicant Funeral Home, 402 Park St. Hackensack, NJ. Immediately following, there will
be a graveside service at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Ave. Paramus, NJ for those
who would like to attend.
The family will sit Shiva on March 29th from 3:00-8:00 at the home of Elaine and Steven
Bergida and on March 30th from 12:00-4:00 at the home of Michelle and Mike
Rutigliano.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Avalon of Hillsborough for the loving care
they provided Jerry over the last year.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the ASPCA
or the charity of your choosing.
