Howard Allan Herr

Howard Herr of Englewood, NJ, beloved son of the late Miriam and Seymour Herr, devoted father to Elizabeth Herr (Chris McDougal) and Jennifer Herr-McKnight (Maurice McKnight,) and dear brother to Betty Herr (Fred Hopengarten) and Richard Herr passed away suddenly on April 10th, 2025.

Howard was born on June 1, 1948 in Paterson, NJ and graduated from Teaneck High School, class of 1967. He later earned a degree in Sociology from Ohio University. In childhood, Howard enjoyed summers playing tennis at Camp Robinson Crusoe and growing up alongside his many Northumberland Road neighborhood friends and cousins.

Howard's start in his family's building materials distribution business, Bayonne Steel, led to an over 40 year career in the trade, also with Anti-Hydro International and Ply Gem Windows. Howard was known for his undying devotion to the New York Giants, the sport of tennis, and classic rock music along with having a great sense of humor and sly charm.

Howard is survived by former wife Ruth (Zauderer) Herr, his two daughters Elizabeth and Jennifer along with their spouses Chris and Maurice, loving siblings Richard and Betty along with her spouse Fred, and all his nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Howard's life will be held on Monday, April 14th at 12:30 PM at Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. A committal service will occur Monday, April 14, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries, 735 Forest Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652. A memorial meal will occur Monday, April 14, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Seasons 52 1 Garden State Plaza Blvd Suite A14 Paramus NJ, 07652. The family will be receiving visitors at Jennifer's Home in Brooklyn New York from Tuesday, April 15-Thursday, April 17th between the hours of 12:00-3:00 PM and 5:00-8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Howard's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Parkinson's Foundation.
