To Zack and the entire Bender Family: I was so sorry to learn about the passing of your grandfather. It sounds like he was an amazing man and you were lucky to have him for such a long time. I've always liked the picture on fb of him with you and your Dad because, not only are you three handsome men, but it also speaks volumes about the strength of family ties.                My Father's Garden

Most wouldn't take a second look at what is growing there
Because on first impression, only weeds are everywhere.
No trenches tilled, no stakes, no strings, no dedicated rows;
It doesn't seem a typical place a typical gardener sows.
Yet, on closer inspection, are strawberries on the vines
And myriads of rainbows bloom beneath the random pines.
Tomatoes tied with tattered twine sway in the fragrant breeze
And fruits hang fully ripening from limbs of unpruned trees.
Berries climb a rickety fence and tin cans catch the rain,
Squashes sprout from compost piles left helter-skelter lain.
Few would pause to ponder all the loveliness alive
In this tangled clump of clutter where such tender things survive.
Most would think this must have been a garden way-back-when
That by some quirk of nature has re-sown itself again
In tribute to a gardener past who planted last it's seeds,
But few would guess a man, steadfast, still tends to all it's needs.
Look into my father's garden. See into my father's mind.
Such wonderful things are growing there, such beauty surprising to find.
Look into my father's garden. See what thrives in his loving care.
I know, for I'm one of the flowers that he nurtured to blossom there.
