Thinking of you on your birthday with fond memories.  So thankful you were in my life.

Today I am remembering my friend, Gideon. He was always happy to see a friend and a pleasure to be with. I can see him in my “mind’s eye” and I can “hear” him in my memory. And that’s what I want, too: to live on in the memories of those who knew or loved me. Gideon lives on in the memories of  so many of us.

Missing you today and always.

I met Gideon in summer 1976, while IPO performed the opera “Othello” in Caesarea with Jubin Mehta and John Wilkers. Gideon that just ended a great career in Germany and planned to move back to New York,  was the Director Assistant. Me and my family were part of the chorus that participated in this amazing production. Gideon and I  became friends and I met his cousins and family in Israel.  Ten years ago we renewed our friendship and met on several occasions in New York City. We stayed in touch all those years by phone and Facebook. I’ll remember Gideon as an intelligent person, amazing and charming  guy and a good friend. 
By definition  he was a Mench. 
I was very sorry to hear the bad news about his death and I hope he’ll Rest In Peace. 
Dear Gideon, I’ll  miss you and I’ll miss our conversations.

I knew Gideon through the American Association of Daily Money Managers (AADMM).  He freely shared his experiences with me and was consistently loving and warm. We both were having medical challenges and supported each other through.   I hope he knows how much he contributed to this world and in particular,  the theatre industry and the Daily Money Management industry.  I am so sad to hear of his passing and will miss him greatly as will thousands.

I knew Gideon for almost thirty-five years. He was always ready to entertain with his erudition, educate with his wit, and never failed to take an opportunity to laugh.

Vale, kind sir. Safe journey home.

I knew Gideon at Oberlin, at Pyle Inn Coop and through being involved with a few shows that he directed - musicals, plays, and Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado.  He was full of energy and enthusiasm for everything he took on and very talented in all his theatrical pursuits.  So many of us have warm and treasured memories of him.
All the best to his family and friends - he will be dearly missed!

Gideon was a generous, talented, and wonderful person whose friendship over the past 56 years I treasure. I also fondly remember his mother who was so lovely and kind to me when Gideon invited me home over Thanksgiving break one year. May their memories be blessings.

I met Gideon as an Oberlin College sophomore in '68, when Gideon returned to campus as he did frequently after graduation.  Both of us also neighbors in Riverdale at the time, we've been friends since that time, but I've seen much less of him since his move to the coast.  Always supportive and generous, Gideon was a supreme friend. He pushed me to have milestone birthday celebrations (would never have done on my own). And was a ready dinner companion before many concerts we attended together.

I also had the unusual chance to see some of Gideon's prodigious handiwork when I visited him in Berlin in 1974. Extraordinary accomplishments. After introducing him to the two musical geniuses behind the New York Festival of Song, I was thrilled as he took over and served that brilliant organization for many crucial years as Executive Director. 

I will dearly miss this longtime friend.

I extend my deepest condolences to Gideon Schein's family and friends. Gideon and I were classmates at Oberlin College. I knew him even better, though, when I served as a class agent for many years. As class president, Gideon demonstrated an extraordinary love and devotion to the school. He was one of the most caring people I've had the privilege to know, and I'll cherish so many fond memories of the time we served together on the Oberlin alumni council as well as his Facebook posts in recent years.

At Oberlin everyone knew Gideon by sight, but afterwards through the alumni association, I learned who he really was.  If your goal in life is to leave this world a better place for you having lived in it, then Gideon's life was the epitome of success.  Everything he did had a positive impact on someone and he was a model for everyone to follow.  Oberlin owes him a lot, and his classmates and everyone he touched owe him a lot more.  

Gideon and I connected via the Gotham Networking group.  We ended up at a golf outing and were in the same cart.  Both of us cared little for golf, but found ourselves talking about our lives, our work, and our passions throughout the day.  We stayed in touch and enjoyed exchanging stories about our common experiences in Israel and our interests in the arts.  Gideon was so kind and open to helping people find their niche.  He acted as a mentor for my wife. She was working on a video project to help children of divorce.  His advice and insights were invaluable.  
Gideon was one of those special people who made you feel better after a few words or a long conversation.  
He will be missed.  May his memory be a blessing to his family and all who knew him.

My condolences to all Gideons family and friends across the globe. I only knew Gideon as Partner in Eddy & Schein, for the last several years.   He will be greatly missed.

 What a sad loss for all of us!   May I offer my heartfelt sympathy and share a memory of someone whose friendship and kindness touched so many.
I met Gideon in 1975 in Berlin after attending a ballet. I had been invited to an after-show drink by one of the dancers. We spoke German for most of the evening until I heard him address one of the performers in perfect English. I was a Brit working as a translator for the U.S. Mission and had assumed he was German. Later, I was impressed to discover that it was not the only language he spoke and read like a native. (I had studied and mastered one language and made it my profession. Gideon excelled in 5 languages and, at 27 years old, had reached the top of his profession as Director of the Berlin Opera and Ballet Company. He was a veritable “Wunderkind”). He slipped me a note across the table and we arranged to meet later that week for dinner. We became good friends – two ex-pats in Berlin, relaxing and speaking English again. 
That same year, our plans took us to opposite sides of the world: I left for Singapore and Gideon returned to New York but our friendship and correspondence lasted through the years, our paths crossing from time to time for memorable visits.
Always a proponent for education, while living in the Hamptons, he kindly stepped in when my daughter needed a mentor for her senior project on the U.N.’s involvement in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 
Gideon will always remain a most special person in my life, someone I respected and, dare I say, hero-worshipped not only for his intellect but for all his achievements over the years.  He lived a full and productive life, never let his health issues slow him down and I feel privileged to call him my friend. 
I offer my sincere condolences to his family and all who knew and loved him.
Sail on, dear Gideon. You will never be forgotten.





Gideon was a good friend at Oberlin. We bonded over being from NY and we worked together on play productions. I am so sorry for your loss. 

Sending my condolences to Gideon’s family and  friends. I knew Gideon professionally. He may not have even been aware of the impact he had on individuals seeking to become daily money managers. He was always willing offer advise and lend a hand. Because of the example Gideon set, I will always try to help others entering the profession.  He will be greatly missed.

I have known Gideon for over 25 years from working on alumni affairs for our alma mater Oberlin College.  He was an important alumni leader for many years.  Gideon was a highly talented renaissance man.  He made a positive impact in the lives of countless people.  I am deeply saddened to learn of his death and send my condolences to his family.  He will be long remembered by many of his fellow Oberlin alumni.

So sorry to hear this sad news of the passing of my old camp mate. Gideon and I met in ‘58 at Camp Meadowbrook in Hunter, New York 
It was a haven for children of  mostly German/Jewish decent. We stayed in touch all these years. RIP my friend

Gideon was a wonderful man, my predecessor as Executive Director at New York Festival of Song.  From the time I met him, 4 years prior to joining the company, he became a supportive friend with lots of good career and life advice. When he decided to step down at NYFOS and begin a new venture in advising seniors, he gave me invaluable help and showed confidence in my devotion to the company.  We stayed in touch - he never forgot my birthday! But I wish I had spent more time with him over the years. He was a singular talent and a warm, loving person. I will miss him.
