Albert G. Franco was born in Brooklyn New York on August 10, 1935. His parents, Gabriel and Bess Franco, were born in Rhodes and Turkey and emigrated to the United States as children. Albert went to Abraham Lincoln High School where he excelled at math (and handball) in particular and then attended Columbia School of Engineering and Columbia Engineering graduate school on a full scholarship. Albert began his career at IBM and then started his own company which he took public in 1972. The company, Ultimacc, was listed on the Boston Stock Exchange (later acquired by Nasdaq) and specialized in computer automation of small to mid-sized companies.
Albert met his wife, Fanny Kligman, in 1960 when they were set up on a blind date and married shortly thereafter. Fanny was born and raised in Colombia, South America and had moved to the United States to attend college. Albert and Fanny lived in Tenafly, New Jersey from 1972 until Albert’s Alzheimer’s disease required them to move from their house in August 2022. Albert was alert until the end, notwithstanding the toll of the devastating disease, and was grateful for the support of friends and family who made the effort to visit and communicate with him. Albert died on May 2, 2022 and is survived by his beloved wife Fanny Franco, daughters Laura and Stephanie Franco, sons in law David Kostin and Dr. Michael Scherl, grandchildren Alex and Julia Kostin, and amazing sister, Lilian Krasner.
