Robert C. Wells of Gurnee IL was born on May 9,1955 in Hackensack, NJ, the only child of Jeanie M. and Harold A. Wells, Jr. He grew up in Freehold, NJ and graduated from Freehold HS in 1973. During his childhood years Bob was active in the BSA achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He and his parents took many vacation trips visiting National and State Parks across the country. He loved the outdoors, camping and was an avid hiker. This led him to pursue and earn his Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 1978. Later that year he married Rebecca (Becky) Andrews and together they had a son, Ian Robert and daughter, Lindsay Marie whom he considered his greatest accomplishments and joy in his life. Over his career Bob worked as an environmental engineer specializing in air quality. He worked for a number of environmental consulting companies, formed his own consulting company (Wells Environmental Consulting) and eventually took a position with Abbott Labs and then AbbVie Inc. He retired from AbbVie is 2018. Bob was an active member of Air and Waste Management Assoc. and held several positions in the Lake Michigan States Section. He served on the Fayetteville Manlius School District school board in Manlius, NY where he was a strong advocate for students with special needs. He was also an active member of several churches throughout his life, most recently Wildwood Presbyterian Church in Grayslake IL. Bob passed away peacefully at home on November 7, 2023. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Becky, his son Ian, his daughter Lindsay (Takashi Kurachi) and a very large and much loved extended family. Donations in Bob’s memory can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Wildwood Presbyterian Church, Grayslake IL or the charity of your choice. There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Bob’s life at Wildwood Presbyterian Church, 18630 W Old Gages Lake Rd, Grayslake IL 60030 on March 2, 2024 at 2PM.
