Marge was born on August 22, 1933, to Jack and Margaret Serdar of North Chicago, Illinois, the oldest of four children. She graduated from Holy Child HS in Waukegan and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northern Illinois Teacher’s College (now Northern Illinois University). She first taught kindergarten at South School in North Chicago before pausing her career to raise her children. Guided by her strong belief in Catholic Education, she returned to teaching 4th grade at Immaculate Conception School in Waukegan for many years. Marge also volunteered her services for several organizations including Catholic Charities, St. Therese Hospital and Vista East Hospital. Her love for the Chicago Cubs was well known to everyone she knew, but her baking for others was her first passion.
She is survived by her sister Lorrie, children Michael (Kathryn) and Pamela, grandchildren Joseph, Matthew (Hayley), Zoe, Dustin (Julia) and Haley, great-grandchildren Liam and Rozlyn, and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Margaret, brother Jack, sister Mary Ann, and Manley (Larry) - her husband of 62 years.
Visitation will be from 9:00am to noon on Saturday February 17 at Marsh Funeral Home 305 North Cemetery Road in Gurnee. A funeral service will follow immediately afterwards at noon. Interment will be at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
Her family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude for the care and support Margaret received from the entire staff at Sunrise of Gurnee, in both their Assisted Living and Reminiscence Center Memory Care communities.
