George "Dave" Butler

Dave Butler went to be with his heavenly father on November 20, 2010, after a lengthy battle with lung disease. He entered this world on January 26, 1937 in Waukegan, Illinois,the 7th of eight children born to George and Jenny Mjelde.

He married Mary Ann Butler in May 1973 and was the proud father of Barry Butler of Waukegan, Kelly Worley (Sam) of Carpinteria, California, and Charles Miller of Richmond, Illinois.

Dave attended Waukegan Schools, joined the Marine Corp for a 2-year tour in 1956 (a period of time of which he reminisced a lot in recent years!), and then worked as a welder at various facilities in this area, retiring from Commonwealth Edison in 1994.

Dave owned two 1930 Model A Fords and was very involved in the Chain O'Lakes Model A Club, participating in all club activities and doing whatever he could to keep members' cars running. He also had a 1955 Ford Tractor that he plowed numerous driveways in the neighborhood with each snowfall. Dave loved helping people and was ALWAYS available to do whatever he could. He will be missed by many!!

Survivors besides his wife and 3 children are sisters Ruth Wikel and Carol (Lee) Sackman of Waukegan, Yvonne (Edward) Turkelson of Racine Wisconsin, Joanne (Thomas) Guy of Seven Lakes North Carolina; brother-in-law Howard Roth of Waukegan; Grandchildren Tyler and Ryan Worley, Grant, Carter and Kasey Miller and numerous nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters-Phyllis Staats, Vivien Roth and Violet Ledger.

Viewing will be held Monday, November 29th from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 Cemetery Road, Gurnee. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 30th at 11:00 am at the Village Church of Gurnee, 1319 N. Hunt Club Road, Gurnee. Internment services at Warren Cemetery will be private.
