She was born on June 25th, 1948 to the late Ruperto Porras and Solidad Roxas in the Philippines. She received her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City. While teaching at Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion in Roxas City, she met Angie Esteban, who played matchmaker for her brother introducing Excelsa to Efren. The two became pen pals and soon after that they were married on June 17th 1978, in the Philippines. They then moved to the United States with their oldest son to pursue the American Dream.
Excelsa was a generous soul, always providing for, helping, and giving all she could to her immediate family, distant relatives and close friends. When it came to her children and grandchildren, she always made sure that they had more than what they needed. She was diagnosed with scleroderma in the early 90s, but that did not stop her from doing the things she loved. One of her many passions was cooking many Filipino dishes and desserts. She especially loved to bake her famous pastries called “Food for the God” to earn extra money during the holidays which were a hit amongst her friends and family.
Excelsa loved her family to the end of the world, and she loved her grandchildren even more. Nothing made her happier then spending time with them, taking care of them and especially cooking food for them. She loved to shop, especially shopping for her grandchildren, buying them clothes that wouldn’t even fit them for years to come.
Excelsa is survived by her husband Efren, her children; Eric (Stephanie), Erwin, and Elmer (Emily); her grandchildren, Sophia, Mason, and Emma; her brother Thomas Porras, sisters Emma Porras and Jocelyn Tomalto; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whose hearts' she touched.
