Doris Louise Pierce (nee Wickersheim), 94, formerly of Waukegan, most recently of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away November 14, 2021. She was born August 22, 1927 in Grayslake, IL and had lived in Waukegan for over 50 years. She was born to Frances & Emil Wickersheim, the youngest of 6 children: Joseph, Ellen, Gladys, Roy & June. She was a graduate of Warren Township HS.
She was a founding member of St. Dismas Church in Waukegan becoming Woman of the Year in 2010. She was active in many of their activities including the choir. She became a member of American Business Women’s Assoc in 1979 & was named Woman of the Year in 1990. She volunteered at the Waukegan Senior Center in the gift shop & also for the Glenwood School reading program. Doris was on the Independence Day Parade committee for 19 years. She was a cofounder of the Polio Network of Northern IL as well as other organizations. She worked for the City of Waukegan in the collections department for many years.
Doris was survived by her daughter Patricia (Pat, PP) Pierce of Crystal Lake, IL and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband, 1st Lt Robert F. Pierce, brothers Joe and Roy Wickersheim, and sisters June Hoenes, Ellen Fisher, Gladys Brose and her parents.
The wake will be held Thursday 4-8 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee. A memorial Mass at St. Dismas Church will be held on Friday at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Dismas Women’s Club, Senior Services in Crystal Lake or, closest to Pat’s heart, the Glaucoma Foundation.
